State Minister for Water Resources Zahid Faruk said for the protection of the country, there is no alternative to planting trees along the embankment projects.
“I have visited Koyra, Shyamnagar and Assasuni upazilas. Where I found the existence of trees, there was no breakage and if a crack was seen that was very little. Since Bangladesh is a riverine country, I would request the entire country to plant trees on the banks of rivers or canals so that houses can be protected, ” he said.
He came up with the remarks recently while visiting various dam areas including cyclone Amphan affected Batbunia in Dakop and Paikgachha upazilas of Khulna district.
Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Whip Panchanan Biswas, lawmaker Md Akhtaruzzaman Babu, Additional Secretary (Development) Mahmudul Islam, Bangladesh Water Development Board Additional Director General Habibur Rahman, Deputy Secretary Nur Alam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-General) Ziaur Rahman and Chief Engineer (Khulna) RafiqUllah accompanied the state minister during the visit.
