Bina’s Director General Dr Mirza Mofazzal Islam said there was no alternative to increasing crop production to meet the food needs of the country’s rapidly growing population.
It is necessary to increase the density of the crop and produce more food grains by selecting improved and high yielding varieties. There is a need to expand varieties and technologies that are profitable for farmers. For this, starting from agricultural scientists, all levels of agricultural officers-employees and farmers have to work.
He was speaking as the chief guest while joining the field day online on Sunday afternoon at Rajendrapur Pakshiphanda village in Rangpur city with the aim of expanding the high yielding and drought tolerant variety Aus-19 variety. He further said that land is decreasing in our country, people are increasing.
Therefore, one crop land should be converted into two crops, two crop lands into three crops and three crop lands into four crops. Agriculture has to be turned into a profitable business. To maintain the ground water level, boro paddy has to be shifted from cultivation to other profitable crops.
The Director General further said that the country has developed varieties of different crops based on agriculture and climate. Bina Dhan-7 has removed the northern manga. In order to increase crop density, short-term, high-yielding varieties have been developed and expanded at the farmer level. In the north, the proposed cropping pattern of aman-potato-maize (cow-feed) and aus paddy has become popular at the farmer level. It also emphasizes the production of oil-free, pulses for food and nutrition security.
