CCC Mayor Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said, Chittagong City Corporation has to run on city tax, but it is not possible to increase the scope of services with this income. Therefore, there is no alternative but to implement income generating projects on one’s own land.
In order to implement development projects, in some cases, the suffering of the city dwellers arises which we have to be able to accept. Otherwise development work will be hampered.
The mayor made the remarks while inaugurating a new ward office on the second floor of CCC Kachabazar Market in Chawkbazar on Monday last.
Panel Mayor Councilor Shahed Iqbal Babu, reserved councilor Rumki Sengupta, chief engineer Rafiqul Islam Manik, mayor’s private secretary Muhammad Abul Hashem, Executive Engineer Farhadul Alam, ward Awami League president Aminul Haque Ranju and Abul spoke on the occasion.
The Mayor said polythene is the curse of civilization. In Karnafuli, dredging is not going to be done with the solid and heavy cover of polythene. Polythene has become a major cause of waterlogging.He urged the city dwellers to be aware of the plight of polythene from their respective positions and to discharge garbage everywhere.The Mayor urged the revenue department to be active in collecting house tax with the help of ward councilors.
