A Correspondent :
Prime Minister’s Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury has said that there’s no alternative to honesty in the profession of journalism.
He viewed that the journalists should only be partial when the questions of national integrity and sovereignty come.
Iqbal, also The Daily Observer Editor, made the remarks on Tuesday during a function organized by the Chittagong Press Club highlighting the life and works of senior journalist M Yousuf titled “Amar Jibon, Amar Sangbadikota.” He called upon the new generation to follow the ideology and honesty of Yusuf to learn more about reporting. Legendary figures like Manik Miah and Jahur Hussain in the field of journalism in our country had always stayed neutral and straightforward in expressing their viewpoint, Iqbal noted.
But whenever comes before us the questions of the spirit of our great liberation war, secularism and stance against humanity, we can’t afford to stay neutral, he added.
The programme was addressed by Kalim Sorower, President of Chittagong Press Club, Abu Sufian, former President of the Press Club, Siddique Ahmed, Ezaz Yousufi, President of CUJ, M Mohosin Chowdhury, General Secretary of the Chittagong Press Club, M Nasirul Huq, Hasan Ferdows, and General Secretary of Chittagong Union of Journalists, Alamgir Sabuj, Chowdhury Farid, Rashed Rouf, Helaluddin Chowdhury and Nazrul Kabir.
Vice-President of BFUJ Shahidul Alam was also present on the occasion.
