11th National Parliamentary election: No alternative to ‘Boat’ for building poverty-free Bangladesh: Speaker

Jatiya Sangshad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury here recently said there is no alternative to the symbol ‘Boat’ for building a developed Bangladesh free from hunger, discrimination and poverty.
“In last five years, we implemented many development projects after examining local problems of all 15 unions in Pirganj upazila of the district and taking realistic steps accordingly,” she said. Dr Shirin said this while making mass public contacts and addressing a number of streets corner rallies as a part of her election campaign at different places of Pirganj municipality and Baro Alampur union in her Rangpur-6 (Pirganj) constituency.
Among the notable development projects already implemented in Pirganj upazila, she cited constructions of the eye-catching Central Shaheed Minar, Muktijoddha Complex Bhaban, Union Parishad Complexes in Kabilpur, Mithipur and Bara Alampur unions, Pirganj Upazila parisahd Complex, infrastructures of Bangladesh Institute of Research and Training on Applied Nutrition (BIRTAN), establishing Dr M A Wazed Textile Engineering College and Marine Academy Construction. “About 80 percent of total developmental works required for Pirganj upazila have already been completed and a revolution has been made in the communication systems through constructions of roads, bridges, culverts and other rural infrastructures,” she said.
She said medical centres have been set up in different unions for women and children and extensive programmes implemented for development of women.
“To make rural women self-reliant and ensure their socio-economic development through income generation activities, various training programmes were implemented along with providing them with inputs and assistance toward the directions,” she said.
“Electricity has been provided to every house of Pirganj upazila. If voted to power by people’s mandate again, Pirganj will be turned into a model upazila by implementing the development projects undertaken by her,” she said.
Leaders of Pirganj Unit of the Grand Alliance participated in the mass public contact campaign and sought votes for the symbol ‘Boat’ in Rangpur-6 (Pirganj) constituency in the December 30 eleventh parliamentary election.
Pirganj Municipal Mayor S M Tazimul Islam Shamim, Pirganj Upazila Chairman and AL leader Noor Mohammad Mandal, Senior Vice-president of District Awami League Chhayadat Hossain Bakul, Acting President of Pirganj upazila AL Azizul Haque Ranga, President of District Chhatra League Mehedee Hasan Rony, Upazila JASOD President Mir Mohammad Ali Manik and President of upazila Jatiya Party Nure Alam Jadu accompanied the Speaker.
