Islamic University (IU) has announced a budget of Tk 65.20 crore for fiscal year of 2015-2016 without any allocation for conducting researches.
The budget was declared at an urgent meeting held in Vice chancellor office on Yesterday afternoon. University treasurer Professor Dr Afzal Hossein announced the budget at the meeting presided over by its vice-canceller Proffessor Dr. Abdul Hakim According to the source, The University Grants Commission (UGC) will provide Tk 57.70 crore while Tk 7.50 crore will be collected from the university’s internal resources. Tk 48.80 crore and 74 percent of the total budget would be spent on salaries & pension of teachers, officials and other staff in this year.
Of the total allocation, Tk 6 crore and 9.20 percent will be spent for Education, sector while no allocation for research.
No allocation for research will narrow the opportunities of extensive research, said teachers. ‘How will teachers conduct researches without money?’ questioned a senior teacher seeking anonymity.
University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Abdul Hakim told The Daily New Nation that the university wanted to allocate more for education and research sectors but it has to depend on the government, as its own income is very limited. The university needs more allocation from the government to ensure quality researches, he said.
