Dhaka Central Jail authorities on Thursday submitted to the International Crimes Tribunals registrar a report on compliance along with a medical certificate on the health condition of ailing war crimes accused Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami.
“The accused’s health condition is gradually improving,” said AKM Nasiruddin Mahmud after receiving the report from the jail authorities.
The Jamaat boss fell sick in custody following unstable high blood pressure in the early hours on Tuesday forcing the ICT-1 to defer the pronouncement of its judgment on his alleged crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
Referring to the health check-up report, the registrar said the health condition of the accused in custody has improved to some extent, not fully.
The jail authorities will submit another report on his overall health condition, Mahmud added.
Meanwhile, senior jail super Farman Ali told UNB that accused Nizami is being treated by a two-member medical board, and he is still under intensive observation at the jail hospital.
Replying to a question, he said the jail authorities have already sent a medical examination report on the accused to ICTs registrar by a special messenger.
