UNB, Dhaka :Condemned convict Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami on Sunday filed appeal with the Supreme Court challenging the death penalty awarded by the International Crimes Tribunal-1 for crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.Emerging from the court, Tajul Islam, a counsel for Nizami, told reporters that his client through his lawyer submitted the plea with the Appellate Division seeking acquittal of the charge.On October 29, the three-member tribunal unanimously condemned incumbent Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Nizami to death for crimes against humanity, including genocide and the murder of intellectuals, during the Liberation War.The tribunal sentenced the Jamaat boss, the I971 commander-in-chief of Al Badr, a secret killing squad of Jamaate -e-Islami, the capital punishment each on four counts of charges of war crimes, terming Al Badr a criminal outfit.
