Four convicts in 10-truck arms haul case including, former-ministers Motiur Rahman Nizami and Lutfozzaman Babar, had been transferred to the Kashimpur and the Dhaka Central Jails on Saturday from Chittagong.Two other convicts are former Director of Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) Major General (retd) Rezzakul Haider Chowdhury and ex-Director General of National Security Intelligence (NSI) Brigadier General (retd) Abdur Rahim.It became necessary, as the prisoners are wanted in other cases, said Sagir Mia, Senior Jail Super of Chittagong Central Jail.Of them, Babar and Nizami landed at Kashimpur Jail while the other two in the Dhaka Central Jail.Babar, Rezzakul and Rahim are accused in the August 21 grenade attack case. The hearing on the case is due on February 4.On the other hand, war crimes case against Nizami, also the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, remains pending at the International Crimes Tribunal-1.A Chittagong court on Thursday handed down death penalty to 14 people, including Nizami, Babar, Rezzakul and Rahim, on the charge of smuggling 10 truck arms into the port city in 2004.A prison van carrying the four convicts and escorted by two police van left Chittagong jail around 10:45am , said the jail super.They had been transferred to Dhaka and Gazipur on security ground, as the Akheri Munajat of the second phase of the three-day long Biswa Ijtema will take place today (Sunday) and a nationwide daylong hartal of Jamaat-e-Islam on Monday, he added.
