Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) on Monday awarded pre-qualification license to the Kishoreganj Economic Zone(KEZ) to develop 91.63 acres of land at Pakundia Upazila under Kishoreganj district.
Prime Minister’s Office Principle Coordinator of SDG Affairs M Abul Kalam Azad was present as the chief guest at the award giving ceremony at Sonargaon Hotel in the city, said a press release.
Nitol Niloy Group and KEZ Chairman Abdul Matlub Ahmed attended the function as the special guest while BEZA Executive Chairman Paban Chowdhury chaired the event. During the function, Abul Kalam Azad said the KEZ, an initiative of Nitol Niloy Group, will play a vital role to develop the economic condition of haor areas in the Kishoreganj district.
BEZA chief Paban Chowdhury said KEZ will play a vital role to generate employment opportunities for huge people of haor areas by attracting investors.
Under the Bangladesh Economic Zones Act 2010, BEZA has been established to set up 100 Economic Zones (EZs) by 2030 to attract more investment as well as to crate employments for more than one crore people and increase export earnings.
The broad objectives of BEZA are structural transformation of the economy of Bangladesh through attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), developing and diversifying export, promoting skill, sharing knowledge, generating employment, ensuring dynamic benefits for the domestic industry and social and environmental sustainability.
