Autopsy report: Nirob died of drowning within 30 minutes

Five-year old Nirob, who was found dead in a sewerage line, died of drowning within 30 minutes of his fall into the uncovered manhole, a forensic report has concluded.
The autopsy was done at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday morning.
A four-member forensic team led by Assistant Professor Dr Kazi Mohammad Abu Sama, acting head of Forensic Department, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, conducted the autopsy.
Dr Kazi Mohammad Abu Sama said, “We suspect that the boy died within 10 to 30 minutes of his fall into the uncovered manhole. We found water in his stomach.”
The body was handed to family members at 11:30am after the the autopsy.
Nirob’s father Rezaul Karim said that the body was buried in their home town Madaripur district on Wednesday evening.
Kadamtali SIB Moufizur Rahman said: “A general diary has been filed in connection with the matter. Next step will be taken after consulting the high officials.”
Nirob, the only child of Rezaul Islam and Nazma Begum, fell into a manhole at Palpara in city’s Shyampur area on Tuesday afternoon.
He was found dead on the bank of Buriganga, one mile away from the spot, four hours after his falling into water while the DMCH doctors declared him dead at about 9:00pm.
Hossain Ismail Nirob was playing with other children near his house in Palpara area around 3:30pm. Suddenly, a playmate pushed him and he fell through an opening of the industrial sewer, bereaved mother Nazma Khatun said, citing one of the children.
Five hours later, his body was found about a kilometre away at Shyampur Sena Kalyan Ghat.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead around 9:00pm.
