Detectives in a drive rescued nine zebras from Satmail Bazar area in Sharsha upazila early Wednesday.
Tipped off, a team of Detective Branch of police conducted a drive in the area around 12 am and rescued the zebras which
were kept there to smuggle off to the neighbouring country, said Maniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of DB.
However, police could not arrest anyone in this connection, he added.
The zebras were brought from Africa in box cartoons and kept at the cattle-shed of one Nur Hossain Tutu, said the OC.
One zebra died after being rescued around 9:30 am. The market value of the zebras is Tk one crore, the OC added.
