At least nine persons, including a father and his son were killed and many others injured in several road crashes across the country on Tuesday.
In Savar (Dhaka), an elderly man and his son were killed when a vehicle rammed their motorcycle on the Dhaka-Aricha highway on Tuesday noon.
The accident took place near Banktown Bridge area in Savar around 12 pm.
The victims were identified as Alauddin, 65, and his son Qaiyyum, 45 of Razaghat area of Savar.
Tahmidul, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Savar Model Police Station, told media that police rushed to spot and received bodies. Family members of the deceased have been reported. Further steps await their arrival. Efforts are underway to track the killer vehicle.
In Narayanganj, at least two persons were killed and two others critically injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a private car in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj on Tuesday noon The accident occurred in Shaonghat area of Rupganj upazila .
The deceased were identified as private car driver Ripon Mia, 30, son of one Sharif Uddin, from Kishoreganj and truck helper Rifat Mia, 18, from Narsingdi.
However, the identities of the injured could not be known yet.
Local sources said that a Narsingdi-bound private car hit a rickshaw then collided with another truck which was parked on roadside, leaving the private car driver Ripon and the truck helper Rifat dead on the spot.”
Mozaffar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kanchpur Highway Police Station, told media “The injured were hospitalized. The private car and truck have been removed from road. Process awaits legal steps,” OC also said.
In Kushtia, a rider of a bike named Hazi Abul Hashem was killed when a trolley hit him at Amla union under Mirpur upazila on Tuesday morning.
The accident occurred around 10:00am at Dakhil Mor of Kushtia-Meherpur highway.
Abul Hashem, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Amla Police Station confirmed the news to the media and said “Hashem died on the spot as the trolley hit him. Locals seized the trolley, but driver fled from the spot.”
In Barguna, a college student was killed in road accident on the Amtali-Kuakata highway on Monday.
Deceased was identified as Tanvir, 23, a third year student at Dhaka New Model College. He was the son of one Anwar Hossain, a resident of Mirpur-1 in Dhaka.
Family sources said that Tanvir along with his friend Parvej riding on a motorbike went out for Kuakata beach from Dhaka in the morning. The motorcycle hit a parked three wheeler after Tanvir lost the control on the steering around 11.30am, leaving three people injured.
In Tangail, a man named Habibur Rahman was killed and four others were injured in a collision between a truck and a microbus in Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station area of on Tuesday morning.
Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station OC Kazi Ayubur Rahman told the news to the media.
In Rajshahi, a youth named Jaker, 17, was killed when a truck hit him in Godagari upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
