UNB, Dhaka :Nine people were killed in separate incidents of lightning strike in Barisal, Brahmanbaria, Thakurgaon, Chandpur and Sherpur districts on Thursday.In Barisal, four people were killed and five others injured as they were struck by lightning in Hijla and Mehendiganj upazilas.The deceased were identified as Rustam Ali Shikder, 60, and Ishaque Ali Hawlader, 40, of Andarmanik village in Mehendiganj, Nur Islam, 50, of Charmemania union and Hazera Begum, 55, of Barojalia union in Hijla.Officer-in-charge of Mehendiganj Police Station MR Shawkat Anwar said Rustam and Ishaque died on the spot as a thunderbolt struck them along with other farmers while working at a field amid rain.In Brahmanbaria, Sulmon Miah, 55, of Karatkandi village, and Mursalin Miah, 22, of Borail village in Sarail upazila died after being hit by lightning in the morning.In Sherpur, farmer Mantu Miah, 40, was struck by a thunderbolt at Tangariapara village in Sadar upazila around 2:15pm while working at his field, killing him on the spot.In Chandpur, lightning strike killed Hanif Talukder, 50, at Dhanua in Faridganj upazila at noon.Halima Begum, 50, wife of Shahadat Ali of Bandiara village in Pirganj upazila of Thakurgaon, died as she was struck by a thunderbolt in the early hours.
