Nilphamari Correspondent :
Nilphamari- Panchgarh direct road communication remaining snapped for the last three days till yesterday as a loaded truck remained standstill on a vulnerable bailey bridge over Jamuneswari River at Hortukitala village in Sadar Upazila after its wheel slipped in the gap of displaced steel plates of the bridge on Monday.
Locals alleged that the bridge having 24 feet length and 10 feet width becomes too vulnerable after Jamaat-Shibir men uprooted eight steal plates from bridge flooring and removed nuts and bolts from structure as part of violent agitation on 12 December, 2013 in protest against execution of Jamaat’s Asst. Secretary General Abdur Kader Molla.
Roads and Highway Department then repaired the bridge urgently but it was not enough as damage was too acute and since then it becomes permanently vulnerable.
The bridge on Nilphamari-Panchgaeh road was constructed four years back replacing a concrete bridge damaged in a flood in 2011.
Sources in RHD informed that in last one and half years since 2013, they repaired the bridge for minor or major faults at least for 15 times to remove vulnerability.
