Quick election in three unions and Nilphamari Sadar Municipality has been demanded.
A voluntary social organization Alo and freedom fighters organised demonstrations, rallies and delivered a memorandum demanding voting in the neighbouring Itakhola, Kundupukur and Khokshabari unions, including Nilphamari municipality, which is pending for a border dispute case.
A procession was brought out from ‘Alo’s head office at Barabazar in Nilphamari, and meeting held at Bangabandhu Square at Deputy Commissioner’s office in Nilphamari.
Speakers at the rally said election has remained suspended for about 9 years in three adjoining unions, and Nilphamari municipality, due to border disputes.
They drew the attention of the Election Commission and the High Court to restore the right to vote of the common people of Nilphamari by ending the border dispute without any delay.
Nilphamari Zila Parishad Chairman Freedom Fighter Joynal Abedin, Nilphamari District former Sector Commanders Forum General Secretary Abdul Jalil, former deputy commander Golam Kibria, Sadar Upazila commander Shahidul Islam, former footballer, Alo’s General Secretary Mahmud Al Hasan Rafin and former student leader Mohiuddin Mohi, were present, among others.
