People will have to pay for renewal or correction of any information in their National Identity (NID) cards
from September 1. In case of losing or damaging the card, the service receiver will have to count Tk 200-1000 to collect the card from the Election Commission.
The commission on Monday published a gazette notification in this regard. At present, people are receiving the NID services free of cost. According to the gazette notification signed by EC Secretary Sirazul Islam, Tk 100 was fixed as service fee for renewing an NID card, while Tk 150 for renewing it on urgent basis.
In case of losing or damaging the NID card for the first time, Tk 200 was fixed as service fee to collect it again normally and Tk 300 on urgent basis, it says.
For losing or damaging NID card for the second time, Tk 300 and 500 were fixed as service fees for collecting it through normal process and emergency process respectively. But in case of losing or damaging the NID card for more than two times, the service receivers will have to count Tk 500 for getting the card through normal process and Tk 1000 for getting it on urgent basis.
To check the authenticity of the NID card, service receivers will have to pay Tk 10 fee for each card. Besides, Tk 100 was fixed as fee to make data of NID card corrected for the first time, Tk 200 for the second time and Tk 300 for more than two times.
The service receivers will have to deposit the fee to the EC Secretary through bank or specific mobile number given by the commission through the mobile banking.
There are data of the country’s 9.62 crore voters in the EC NID server. The commission has a plan to provide smart NID card to the citizens from August next.
Moreover, the EC NID Registration Wing is going to sign agreements with Police and Rab to give the law enforcement forces access to the NID server for checking information of the particular citizens, EC officials said.
The Election Commission at its meeting last week approved the agreements. According to EC officials, any organisation or force will have to count Tk 5 lakh registration fee initially to have access to the EC NID servers and Tk 2 fee for getting data of any particular person for each time.
