NHRC’s fact-finding body formed

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday formed three-member fact-finding committee over the arson attack at three avillages of Langadu Upazila in Rangamati.
Banchita Chakma, honorary member of NHRC, was made head of the committee and Gazi Salauddin, Deputy Director, and Sajjadur Rahman, assistant director of NHRC, members.
The committee has been asked to submit report within four working days.
A septuagenarian woman was reportedly burnt to death as about 300 houses of ethnic minority people were set on fire allegedly by Bengali settlers at three villages of Langadu upazila in Rangamati on June 2.
The attack came after the body of a local Juba League leader was recovered at Char Kilometre of Khagrachhari on June 1. District Juba League president Akbar Hossain Chowdhury, also the Rangamati Municipality Mayor, led the demonstration, witnesses said.
The police on June 2 filed a case against about 400 people naming 15 for the arson.
