UNB, Dhaka :The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said the law enforcement agencies’ negligence of duty in investigation and arresting the accused of the recent abductions and killing of seven people in Narayanganj has contributed to the worsening human rights situation in the country. In its 27th meeting on Monday, the NHRC expressed grave concern over the country’s overall human rights situation and the negligence of the administration in taking measures to prevent the incidents of abduction, forced disappearance and killing in different parts of the country, particularly in Narayanganj.”The commission thinks that the reluctance of the law enforcing agencies engaged in ensuring the security public life and property is in no way acceptable,” said an NHRC press release on Tuesday. It said the law enforcement agencies are suspected after every incident. “If the agencies fail to identify the real culprits through proper investigation, the reasonability for that will go to that agency.”The law enforcers’ negligence in carrying out their constitutional duty to save public life and property is an ominous sign for human rights, the commission said.It urged all the government authorities concerned to take effective steps for improving the human rights situation and ensuring the security of public life and property. At the meeting, the commission decided to move the higher court seeking directions to protect human rights if the administration fails to take effective measures in stopping the incidents of abductions, forced disappearance and killing.
