National Housing Authority (NHA) has embarked upon a first ever plan to build 2,000 residential flats in government-owned abandoned houses in the city to address the growing accommodation crisis of the public servants and citizens. A total of 43 abandoned houses have already been enlisted in Khulshi and Nasirabad residential areas and the housing authority after scrutiny has finalized the project to build high-rise buildings on the land of 15 houses. NHA officials said of the 15 houses, 11 will be erected in city’s Khulshi and four houses in Nasiraband housing society.
Kowser Morshed, Executive Engineer of NHA, Chittagong Division told The New Nation that several high-rise buildings would be constructed on the government owned land in the city, demolishing the existing unustable infrastructures, which would reduce the existing accommodation crisis to a great extent.
“Nearly 2,000 flats will be constructed on 4.63 acres of land, sources added.He said NHA would take back the government fund after selling the flats among the public servants and citizens at reasonable prices. The occupants of the abandoned houses will be served notices after final decision by Housing and Public Works Ministry, he added
