A group of non-government organisations have jointly demanded allocation of more budgetary fund for the disable people.
The allocation is inadequate. It should be increased, they said.
Leaders of nine NGOs, working for persons with disabilities in the country, placed their demand at a press briefing at the Jatiya Press Club on Monday.
Access Bangladesh Foundation organised the programme in assistance with the Manusher Jonno Foundation and UKAid while DCF, WDDF, NGDO, NCDW, SDSL, DWS, VIPs and Turning Point took part in the briefing.
“The budget allocated for the disabled is 2.19 per cent of the budget for social safety net, which is only 0.31 per cent of the total budget,” said Albert Mollah, Executive Director of Access Bangladesh Foundation.
He said, “The allocation prioritizes monthly allowances of disabled people.”
In a set of recommendations suggested, the NGOs leaders called for development planning of the persons with disabilities, stipends and allocation for creating jobs for them.
