NGO Affairs Bureau has cancelled the registration of the Odhikar.
The Odhikar registration had expired in March 2015. Then the organization applied to NGO Affairs Bureau of Bangladesh for renewal of its registration. On Sunday NGO Affairs Bureau rejected the petition. So, its registration tenure automatically ended.
In an office order, NGO Affairs Bureau has said the Odhikar registration had been cancelled for few reasons including its activities tarnished country’s image in the international arena.
Another reason was that it failed to provide required documents and renewal fee and VAT as per new law, failed to explain about audit report on eight projects which were implemented by foreign aid, odhikar.org website has prepared documents
against the Bangladesh and lack of proper explanation on three project’s abnormal transactions as detective department required.
Office order further said the NGO Odhikar’s registration had been cancelled according to foreign aid (Volunteer activities) regulation Act 2016 Article 4(4) where it said if the application was incomplete, failed to submit required papers, unable to answer questionnaire, involvement with anti-state activities, those NGO’s registration will be cancelled. The NGO Odhikar was accused of aforesaid causes as its registration was cancelled.
