NGO activist picked up by plain cloth men, police denied

An NGO activist was allegedly picked up by some plain cloth police men from Jhenaidah town on Friday afternoon.
 The victim was identified as Rabiul Islam, 35, son of Lutfar Rahman Biswas of Chaklapara area of Jhenaidah municipality.
Kokila Akter Ranu, wife of Rabiul Islam said, Rabiul was purchasing kitchen accessories in the post office inter section in Jhenaidah on Friday noon. A group of plain cloth police taken him in to a narrow lane and then and carried him in a microbus.
The family members talked to various corners in police and local administration, while he could not be traced, said Kokila Akter Ranu on Saturday night.
Additional superintendent of police in Jhenaidah Azbahar Ali Seikh said, he was not informed about the picking up Rabiul Islam by the plain cloth policemen so far.
In the other hand, some plain cloth police picked up a union parishad member, also the ward Juba League president Abdul Halim, 47, on Thursday evening. He was the son of Jaburuddin of Lakkhipur village under Dora union of Kotchandppur.
Abdul Haliam’s brother Abdur Razzaque said, Halim was staying in his business shop at local market at Lakkhipur Bazer, some plain cloth police in the evening picked up him and fled the scene. Halim was elected as a ward member uncontested in Dora union parishad during the union parishad polls. There was no case with the police, Abdur Razzaque added.
Kotchandpur police station officer in charge Ahmed Kabir Chowdhury when contacted said, the police did not pick up Abdul Halim, while the police was informed locally that some Abdul Halim was missing.
