A woman who was arrested in a case filed for burning her minor son to death at Baroipara in Araihazar upazila following her extramarital affairs reportedly confessed to her crime before a court here on Sunday.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Mehedi Hasan recorded the confessional statement of Shefali Akhter, wife of one Anwar Hossain, a Malaysian expatriate, after police produced her before his court, said sub-inspector Abul Quasem of Araihazar Police Station, also the investigation office of the case.
Shefali told the court that she along with her lover Reshedul Islam Momen wrapped her two sons – Hridoy, 9, and Zihad, 7 — in a blanket and set them afire pouring kerosene on it following the extramarital affair.
Earlier on April 13, police arrested her for allegedly killing her son, but Momen managed to flee.
Hearing screams, locals rushed to the house of Shefali and found her son Hridoy, a Class-III student, and Zihad burn injured and took them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital where doctors declared Hridoy dead.
