The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police is going to press charges soon against 36 people belonging to Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd, Dhaka Power Distribution Company Ltd (DPDC) and the mosque managing committee over the explosion at a Narayanganj mosque that left 34 people dead.
It said Titas can in no way avoid the responsibility over the incident that took place at Baitus Salat Mosque from accumulated gas.
After investigation, the CID said the gas accumulated as the pipeline was damaged during the expansion of the mosque violating the rules while electric sparks were created while changing the cutouts of the illegal power connection.
It found the proof of corruption and negligence of duty against eight employees of DPDC, eight of Titas and 26 members of the mosque committee.
CID chief Additional Inspector General of police Barrister Mahbubur Rahman said they are going to submit a charge-sheet against 36 people before the court over the incident.
The explosion took place around 8:45pm during Esha prayers on September 4 when the devotees just finished their prayers.
The explosion took place due to the leakage in the gas pipeline, leaving 40 people injured. They were first taken to Sadar Hospital and 37 of them later sent to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery where 34 of them died.
