NFFF urges govt to raise grants for all FFs

Speakers at a meeting organised by the National Freedom Fighters Foundation have demanded Tk 10,000 as monthly grant for all freedom fighters in order to remove disparity between different age groups.
The meeting arranged at the National Press Club on Thursday also recalled the contribution of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in giving due support and respect to the freedom fighters.
Among others, Md. Abul Faiz, Commander of the Commanders’ Forum, Monoranjan Ghosal, Senior Vice Chariman of National F. F. Foundation, Subedar Abdul Wahab, representative of the awards recipient freedom fighters, Kazi Ashraf Humayun Bangal, Bir Protik, Tangail Zilla Commander and Mahbubul Haq Shahjada, Gaibandah Zilla Commander, Md. Abdur Rob, Zilla Commander of Mymensingh and Mozammal Haq Milon, Zilla Commander of Noakhali were present.
Convener Md. Abul Faiz, the main discussant of the meeting said, “Premier Hasina was the first to allocate grant for our freedom fighters after 26 years of the Liberation War. The amount of money allocated has now been raised in stages up to Tk 10,000 from 5,000 per month.’
He said, ‘She ensured a job quota for the freedom fighters, their children and grand children, who are of 32 years of age.’
 ‘The decision to give ‘Guard of Honor’ to the freedom fighters after their death came from Sheikh Hasina. A separate quota has been allocated for their children in college and universities to ensure their proper education. Piece of land has been allocated for housing as a mark of their remarkable contribution to the nation.’
It may be mentioned here that after 65 years, the honorary grant for the freedom fighters has been allocated Tk10,000 per month and below 65 years, the grant is fixed at Tk 5,000 per month. (Picture on Page 3)
