9th Wage Board: Newspaper workers to submit memo to PMO Nov 15 Hold rally in city

Newspaper workers will submit memorandum to the Prime Minister’s Office on November 15 if their 10 points demand, including implementation of the 9th Wage Board, are not translated into action. The new programme was announced on Wednesday.

Bangladesh Sangbadpatro Karmachari Federation and Bangladesh Federal Union of Newspaper Press Workers announced the programme jointly from a rally held in front of the National Press Club on the day.
The two organisations observed the pre-announced work abstention programme from 11:00am to 2:00pm, held rally and demonstrations for the purpose.
The other demands of the organizations are formation of Destitute Welfare Fund for press workers and general employees as in the case of the journalists, to stop harassment and termination of press workers and general employees, restoration of Newspaper Act-1974, end of accommodation crisis, construction of office buildings for press workers and newspaper employees, right to trade union, formation of guidelines for newspaper industry, withdrawal of benefits accorded to the media house if the wage board was not executed and giving of benefits equally to the journalists and workers.
Matiur Rahman Talukdar, the President of Bangladesh Sangbadpatro Karmachari Federation presided over the programme. Md. Tajammul Haque, the Tresurer of Bangladesh Federal Union of Newspaper Press Workers moderated the programme.
M Abdullah, Secretary General of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists-BFUJ, (a faction) and Jahangir Alam Prodhan, General Secretary of DUJ, (a faction) gave speech expressing solidarity with those demands.
Md. Alamgir Hossain Khan, the President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Newspaper Press Workers, Md. Kamal Uddin, Secretary General of the Federal Union and Md. Khairul Islam, Secretary General of the Federation, among others, spoke on the occasion.
