Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Friday called upon the journalists to present objective news and unbiased information so that the country as well as the nation can move forward.
The Speaker made this call while addressing as the chief guest at the inaugural session of the biennial representative conference-2015 of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) at the auditorium of the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) here.
” The objectivity of the news is most important for the mass media and the media workers.
I hope you will work for the welfare of the country as well as the nation by presenting objective news and constructive criticism,” said the Speaker also Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).
The public opinion is usually formed and influenced by the write-ups of the journalists, said Dr Shirin, adding that the positive public opinion can be formed through the presentation of the objective news and it is necessary for overall development of the country.
Praising the role of the journalists in strengthening democracy and protecting people’s right and the freedom of speech, the CPA Chairperson said “The journalism profession is not even smooth…you have to work amid a lot of risk ,so Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various initiatives including the passing of ‘Welfare Trust Act’ for the Journalists.”
The Speaker urged the BFUJ leaders to work for realizing the demand of housing including provision of other facilities taken by the government which would not only be for the journalists in the capital but also for the journalists living at the division and district levels.
Chaired by BFUJ President Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, it was also addressed by Prime Minister’s Media Advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury as the special guest. BFUJ Secretary General Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan gave the welcome address at the function.
