3 of a family doped in bus, robbed of Tk5 lakh valuables
BENAPOLE: An organised gang of dopers looted cash and valuables worth Tk five lakh from three members of a family by making them unconscious in a bus on the Jessore-Magura Highway on Friday night. The victims were identified as Salma Begum, her daughter Shoma,16, and son Rabbi,14. Salma said she along with her daughter and son was going to her village, Harishpur, in Shalikha upazila of Magura district riding a bus of ‘Eagle Paribahan’ to attend her elder daughter’s wedding. When the bus reached the Paturia ferry terminal in Manikganj, the trio got off the bus and had three glasses of sugarcane juice. Later, after returning to their bus, all the three became unconscious around 10:30pm. At one stage, members of the doper gang looted eight finger rings, other golden ornaments and two mobile phone sets-which will be worth Tk four lakh in total- and Tk one lakh cash from them. As the matter came to the notice of the driver of the bus, he got the victims down from the bus at Shimakhali Bazar on the Jessore-Magura Highway. Later, locals whisked them off to Jessore Medical College Hospital.
Tk20 lakh fish poisoned to death
Miscreants poisoned fish worth Tk20 lakh to death in a pond at Ghoradah village in Jhikargachha upazila of Jessore district on Friday night. Police and locals said one Akram Hossain had been cultivating fish in the pond under a project started with lone money. The victim, Akram Hossain, said he found dead fishes floating in the water body yesterday .Officer-in-charge of Jhikargachha Police Station Molla Khabiruddin said the miscreants might have poured poison into the water body, killing the fish, following previous enmity. Akram Hossain claimed that the extent of loss could go up to Tk 20 lakh.
Two held with yaba in Faridpur

Two held with huge quantity of drug yaba by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-8 in two separate raids on Friday from Sadar and Bhanga upazillas. According to Rab sources, one Rony Khan, 25 was held with 370 pieces of yaba drug from Guha Lakhsmipur are on the north side of rail line by a team of Rab led by ASP Md Hafizul Islam. Rony was arrested from his own residence. Rony a drug peddler by profession was later on handed over to Kotwali police for legal action. In a separate raid in Bhanga upazilla on Friday a Rab team led by CC Major Abdul Al Hassan on secret information picked up one Kamrul Chowkdar, 30 from Bhanga Dakkhain par Auto stand area within Bhanga Pourashava. Rab seized 225 pieces of yaba tablets and one active cell phone from the drug peddler. He was handed over to Bhanga police for necessary legal action.
Housewife commits suicide

A housewife allegedly committed suicide over conjugal dispute at Jadabpur village in Jibannagar upazila yesterday morning. The deceased was identified as Shila Khatun, 22, wife of Jahidul Islam, a resident of the village. Officer-in-charge of Jibannagar Police Station Liakat Hossain said Shila had been at loggerheads with her husband Jahidul over family matters. On Saturday morning, Jahidul found his wife’s body hanging with the ceiling of the room and informed his family members. On information, police rushed in and sent the body to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Man held for ‘violating niece’ in Gopalganj
GOPALGANJ : Police arrested a man for allegedly violating his niece at Ichakhali village in Sadar upazila early Saturday. The arrestee was identified as Alid Molla,17, son of Nazrul Molla, a resident of the village. Quoting family members, officer-in charge of Sadar Police Station Selim Reza said Alid lured his four-year-old niece into his house with a guava and violated her there on Friday evening. The girl after returning home informed her mother about the incident. The mother filed a case against Alid with the police station. Later, police arrested Alid from his house at about 12:30am.
