Rabindra Festival ends in Barisal Barisal CorrespondentA Rabindra-Festival on the occasion of the 153rd birth anniversary of Bishwa Kobi Rabindranath Tagore has been ended at Barisal Aswani Kumar Hall on Thursday night. Jatiyo Rabindra Sangeet Sammilan Parishad Barisal unit organized the festival with the slogan of ‘Beyokto Hok Toma’ Majhey Oseemer Chiro Bishmoy (All wonders of the eternity be manifest through You). Shahidul Alam, deputy commissioner Barisal, was the chief guest of the festival included lighting the Mangol Prodip, discussions on life and achievements of the great poet Tagore, performing recitations, songs, dance and dramas of the Great Literary Loretta of our Bangla language and literature. Nazrul Islam Chunnu, president JRSSP Barisal presided over the ceremonies of the festival addressed by Prof. Md Hanif, educationist, Shamima Masud Munni, secretary JRSSP, Advocate Manabendra Batobayal, Dev Dulal Guha, Tapankar Chakroborty, Kajal Ghosh, cultural activists. Parntik Sangeet Bidyaloy, Shilpakala Academy, Uttaron Sangkritik Sangathan and different cultural organizations, educational institutions also arranged separate programmes of discussion, recitation, cultural functions on this occasion. The discussants of the festival and other programmes said, “Tagore dreamt of a world without conflict. Individualism and humanity are recurring subjects in his writings. We should keep in mind that besides being a true patriot, Tagore was also a global personality. He is a major source of inspiration for the people of Bengal, our liberation and sovereignty”. Misappropriation of food grains by UP member alleged Sylhet Correspondent Doyamir Union Parishad Mamber Alkas Ali allegedly misappropriated 2 tonnes of food grains through submitting 2 false development projects under his union of Doyamir in Balagonj upazila in Sylhet district. People of Chintamoni and other village alleged Alkas Ali got some 2 tonnes of food grains under the projects of Kajer Binimoye Khadyo (Kabikha) and special allocation from local Member of Parliament (MP) in 2013-2014 financial year. Government allocated 2 tonnes of food grains under the project of Kabikha for the road development project from house of Firuz Ali to Asab Ali house road development projects. But he misappropriated all 2 tonnes of food grains, he alleged. ‘We have submitted application against the UP mamber to the concerned authorities including DIG of Sylhet, DC of Sylhet, UNO of Baglagong and Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) seeking investigation against his corruption but no action has yet been taken,’ he also alleged. Balagonj Upazila Nirbahi Officer admitted it and asked Upazila Social Welfare Officer to investigate the issues. Upazila Social Welfare Officer said he had not yet started investigation work as he was busy with his official work.
