School boy committed suicide

Azizul Huq Manna, 16, student of class nine at Kagashura High School under Airport police station of the city committed suicide by hanging himself from roof of his home tying scurf of his sister on Thursday noon. He was son of Shah Alam, a vegetable trader. Sub Inspector Lokman Hossain Khan of Airport police station, quoting family and other sources said, five months ago Khuku Moni, 17, elder sister of Manna committed suicide by setting fire on her body over dispute with husband. Manna became mentally depressed since then as both were very close in relationship. On Thursday morning he returned home from half-way to school.
‘Terrorist’ held with firearm in Jessore
BENAPOLE: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged terrorist along with a firearm from Stadium Para in Jessore district town on Thursday night. Tipped off, a team of Rab-6 launched a drive in the area and arrested Mahbubur Rahman Sabu alias Mochwala Sabu along with one shutter gun and one round of bullet around 11 pm, said DAD Kamruzzaman of Rab-6 camp.A case was filed with Kotwali Police Station, reports UNB.
One held with 250 bottles phensidyl
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged drug-peddler with 250 bottles of contraband phensidyl from Krisnapur village in Sharsha upazila of the district on Wednesday. The arrestee was identified as Wahed Ali Sheikh, 55, a resident of the same area. Acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area this morning and arrested Wahed with the phensidyl, said Murad Hossain, Sub-Inspector of Sharsha Thana. A case was filed in this connection.
Road crash kills schoolboy

A schoolboy was killed in a road accident near Nabinagar Govt Primary School in the district town on Wednesday morning. The victim was identified as M Awal Miah, 7, son of Lokman Hossain, resident of the same area. Police said the accident occurred when an easy bike turned turtle and fell on Awal in the area at about 8 am while he was going to school. Critically injured Awal was admitted to Zila Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Tree Fair to begin on July 31

An eight-day long tree fair will begin from Sunday (31st July) at Shaheed Dr Abul Kasem premises of the district. District administration, forest department and department of agriculture extension (DAE) have jointly organised the tree fair. Shamsul Alam Dudu, MP will inaugurate the fair while deputy commissioner M Abdur Rahim will preside over the function. A total of 35 stalls will be set up at the fair, said the organisers.

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion(RAB)-8 stationed at Faridpur seizes huge quantity of Yaba tablets and arrested one drug peddler in this connection from this town on Thursday evening. According to RAB sources, acting on secret information a RAB team led by ASP Hafizul Islam nabbed one Barek Khan, 42 from Laksmipur area of this town and recovered 575 pieces of Yaba tablets from his possession. Later, he was handed over to Kotwali Police along with the seized Yaba for necessary legal action.
