3 children drowned in Netrakona
NETRAKONA: Three minor children drowned in the river Dhali at Ilazpur village under Purbadhala upazila of the district on Wednesday. The victims were identified as Mazharul, 6, son of Azizul Miah, Sumona, 5, daughter of Shamsuddin Miah and Konika, 5, daughter of Sirajul Haque of the same village. Police and family sources said the children fell into the river and drowned while they were playing by the side of the river. Being informed, police recovered their bodies from the river, reports BSS.
3 detained with arms in Savar

Dhaka District (North) DB police detained 3 people along with one foreign pistol, 4 pieces bullet and 2 magazines by checking from a check post of Krisnonagar area of Fulbaria of Savar on Thursday noon. The arrestees are identified as Josim uddin, 28, son of Anis Sheikh of Jhitka thana of Manikgonj district, Anis sheikh, 50, and Aiub Ali, 48, son of late Mozammel Hossain of same area. Mir Shaheen Sah Parvez, OC of Dhaka district north DB police said, on secret information DB police set up a check post at Krisonagar area of Fulbari and detained 3 people with firearms. After interrogation of arrestees an arms case would be filed against arrestees.
Tagore’s 153rd birth anniv celebrated in Gaibandha

The 153rd birth anniversary of world poet Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated in the district on Thursday amid much enthusiasm ans festivity. In celebration of the anniversary, district administrations and Zilla Shilpaka Academy (ZPA) including different socio-cultural organizations chalked out elaborate programmes. In the morning a big colorful Rabindra rally was brought out from Independence Square here and paraded the main thoroughfares of the town. A large number of people including students, teachers, cultural personalities, officials and employees participated in the rally and carried colorful banners, festoons and placards. Apart from it, a discussion meeting organized by district administration on different aspects of Tagore’s life and his literary works was held at the hall room of ZPA here in the evening with additional deputy commissioner Abu Bakar Siddique in the chair. Deputy Commissioner M. Ehsan-e-Elahi was the chief guest and additional police super M. Mosarrof Hossain was special guest. Vice principal of Ahammad Uddin Shah Shishu Niketan, School and College Mazharul Mannan and associate professor of Gaibandha Govt. College Zitendranath Sarker also spoke. DC M. Ehsan-e-Elahi in his speech said the Nobel laureate poet proved his class and caliber as a litterateur, novelist, educator, composer, singer, dramatist and artist. The poet made outstanding contributions to the development of the Bangla and established its dignity to other people in the world, he added.
Jubo Dal leader, Jamaat man held in Satkhira
SATKHIRA : Police in a drive arrested a local leader of Jubo Dal and an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami at Dhandia Bazar in Kolaroa upazila on Thursday. The arrestees were identified as Siddikur Rahman, president of Joynagar union unit of Jubo Dal and son of Abdur Rashid of Joynagar village, and Afaz Uddin, 55, son of late Neyamot Sardar of Salimpur village in the upazila. Confirming the incident, Mofazzal Hossain Kanak, officer-in-charge of Kolaroa Police Station, said Siddikur was wanted in Jubo League leader Mehedi Hasan Judge Ali killing case while Afaz Uddin was wanted by police in another case, reports UNB.
Expat’s house robbed of valuables in Sylhet

Robbers looted valuables worth Tk 10 lakh from an expatriate’s house at Rautkhai village under Osmaninagar thana in the city early Thursday. Witnesses said a gang of robbers, numbering 7/8, stormed the house of Dubai expatriate Salam Mia and kept the house inmates hostage at gunpoint. Later the robbers looted valuables, including 18 tolas of gold ornaments, cash Tk20,000 and four mobile phone sets, and decamped with the booty. Being informed, police visited the spot and picked up Akhaddus Mia and Kuddus Mia suspecting their involvement in the incident.
Bus passengers robbed of valuables in Comilla
COMILLA: Highway robbers looted valuables worth Tk several lakhs from passengers of a bus on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at Putia in Daudkandi upazila on Wednesday night. Police and passengers said a gang of robbers, numbering 8-10, in the guise of passengers boarded the Laxmipur-bound coach of ‘Jonaki Paribahan’ service from Dhaka in Gozaria of Munshiganj district at about 10:00pm. The gang later snatched away valuables, including cash, from the passengers taking them hostage at gunpoint in the moving bus. When the bus reached Putia of Daudkandi, the robbers forced the passengers to get down. Then they drove away the bus to Siddhirganj of Narayanganj district and fled away leaving the bus there. Officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Police Station Abu Salam Mia confirmed the incident, reports UNB.
