World Population Day observed in Sylhet

World Population Day-2016 was observed in Sylhet in a befitting manner. Department of Family Planning brought out a colorful rally in the city. The rally brought out from the premises of Deputy Commissioners Office ended at Zilla Parishad compound after parading the main streets of the city. Deputy Commissioner Joynal Abedin led the rally. Later, a discussion meeting was held at the hall room of Zilla Parishad. Director, Department of Family Planning Kutub Uddin was in the chair. Devisional Commissioner Jamal Uddin Ahmed addressed the discussion meeting as chief guest. Sadar Upazilla Chairman Asfaq Ahmed, DDLG Debjit Singha, Zilla Parishad Cheif Abdul Ahad, CS Habibur Rahman, Deputy Director of Family planning Lutfunnahar Jesmin addressed the discussion meeting as special guest. This year the theme of the day is “investing in teenage girls” those who face a lack of school and early marriage and motherhood which leaves them vulnerable to illness, injury and exploitation.
3 drug-paddlers held with phensidyl, truck
RAJSHAHI: During an anti-crime drive, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three alleged drug-paddlers with 700 bottles of phensidyl and a truck at Rajabari checkpoint on Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj highway under Godagari Upazila of the district last night, RAB sources said here yesterday. The arrested persons were identified as Johirul Islam, 36, Badsha Sheikh, 28, and Alamgir Hossain, 30. On a tip-off, a team of the elite force halted a Dhaka bound stone-laden truck and recovered the phensidyl after searching it. The operation team also seized the truck containing 433 square feet of stone and three mobile sets. A case was recorded with the police station concerned in this connection, reports BSS.
Huge current nets seized in Munshiganj
MUNSHIGANJ:The Coast Guard personnel in separate drives seized 1.60 crore meters current net from two fishing net factories in outskirts of the town on Thursday. A team of Bangladesh Coast Guard, led by chief petty officer of Pagla Coast Guard Mohammad Zakir Hossain, conducted the raids at “A R Fishing Net,” and “Padma Young Fishing Factory” and seized the banned current nets. Nobody was arrested in this connection during the raids. The seized nets worth about Taka 80 lakh, the Coast Guard sources said. Shahjada Kashru, a fisheries official of Sadar upazila, said the seized nets were burnt in presence of officials concerned, reports BSS.
6 eve-teasers punished in Jessore
BENAPOLE: Two mobile courts on Thursday convicted four young men and awarded them three days’ jail each and fined two others Tk300each for eve-teasing girls in Jessore district town. Those who got the jail term were identified as Abul Hossain,18, son of Joynal Hossain of Nilganj Tantipara, Abdur Rahim, 18, son of Abdul Latif, Sagar Hossain, 18, son of Abdur Razzak of Nilganj Sahapara, and Akash Hossain 19, son of Sahabuddin of City College Para in the district town. Those who were fined were identified as Iman Hossain, son of Akram Hossain, and Sagar Hossain, 18, son of Nur Islam of Mollapara area in the town. Shahidul Islam, sub-inspector of Kotwali police station, said the six young men were arrested on charge of eve-teasing girls from different parts of the town on Thursday. Later they were produced before the two mobile courts-one led by executive magistrate Nahid Tamanna and another by executive magistrate Anwaruzzaman-at night that handed down the penalties after finding them guilty, reports UNB.
