Two held, foreign currencies seized at Benapole

Benapole customs officials arrested two travelers from no-man’s land along Benapole land port on Thursday while they were going to India, customs sources said. The arrestees are Mokhlesur Rahman, 37of Kaptanbazar, Dhaka and Khairul Islam, 38 of Nandipara Jame Mosque Road, Khilgaon, Dhaka.
The two were picked up from no-man’s land area while they were wailing to leave Bangladesh after completing every procedure on Thursday, said Uttam Samaddar, customs official. The Customs men seized Kuwait dinar equivalent to Tk 11 lakh 56 thousand and US $ 200 searching the body of Khairul bearing passport number AF -0729109 and Bahrain dinar equivalent to Tk 4 lakh 96 thousand 300; 3,000 currencies of an African country, 380 Kuwait dinar, 92 Indian rupee and Tk 2,550 from Mokhlesur Rahman.
4 held for graft case in Sylhet

A Sylhet court on Wednesday issued warrants for arrest of four people, including two officials of the Department of Environment (DoE) in a graft case. Sylhet Metropolitan Sessions Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha passed the order and fixed September 21 for next hearing. Those facing arrest are Zillur Rahman, former deputy director of Sylhet DoE, its former inspector Faruk Ahmed, Nurul Haq, former chairman of Mollapara union in Sadar upazila of Sunamganj district, and Nuruzzaman Dudu of Buristhol village in Sunamganj district.
At present, Zillur Rahman is deputy director of Tangail DoE while Faruk Ahmed is posted at the DoE headquarters. According to the case statement, one Abdur Rahim of Burishtol village received an environment clearance certificate from the then deputy director of DoE and set up a saw mill on February 10, 2010. Later, one Nuruzzaman Dudu took possession of the mill illegally. Despite objection from Abdur Rahim, the DoE authorities renewed the environment clearance certificate in the name of Nuruzzaman Dudu in 2011, which caused a financial loss to Abdur Rahim. Following the incident, Abdur Rahim served a legal notice to three DoE officials on March 16, 2014 and getting no response from them, he filed a case with Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Court on June 4, 2014.
2 killed, 15 injured in Rangpur

Two people killed and fifteen were injured in a road accident when a truck and passenger bus collided head on at Kalabari under Pirgonj upazilla on Rangpur-Dhaka highway on Saturday morning . olice and locals said, a Kurigram bound night coach Ahsan Paribhan collided head on with a fruits laden truck at Kalabari under Pirgonj upazilla on Rangpur-Dhaka highway leaving two people killed and fifteen injured on the spot. On information, police reached the spot and sent the dead bodies to Rangpur Medical college Hospital [RMCH] for post mortem examination. The injured were admitted at Upazilla health complex and RMCH. The deceased were identified as- Afazuddin, 45, resident of Sathkhira district and Morzina Begum, 40 resident of Vhurungamari upazilla under Kurigram district.
The Borodargaw – Pirgonj highway police sub-inspector, Kazi Shahidul Islam confirmed.
