Two killed in Barisal road accidents

Two killed and nine injured in two separate road accidents on Barisal-Dhaka highway on Monday and Sunday night. Ejajul Islam, officer in charge of Gournadi highway police station, said a motorcycle plying from Gournadi to Kalkini loosing control hit a roadside tree near Barthi on Barisal-Dhaka highway Monday noon. In that accident motorcycle driver Ferdous, 35, killed at the spot and his co-rider Sumon, 31, injured severely. Killed Ferdous was son of Abdus Samad Daptari from Kashimpur under Kalkini upazila of Madaripur district. On other hand, driver of a microbus plying the highway skidded to roadside ditch at Bezhar of Gournadi on Sunday afternoon, police sources added.
Robber injured in Laxmipur gunfight with cops
LAXMIPUR: An alleged robber was injured in a reported gunfight with police in Kashimnagar area of Ramganj upazila early Tuesday. The injured robber was identified as Harun. He was accused in several cases, including for robbery, with Ramganj Police Station. Tota Miah, officer-in-charge of the police station, said on secret information that a gang of robbers numbering 9/10 were taking preparation to commit robbery, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 2.00am. Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire on them, forcing the law enforcers to fire back, triggering a gunfight that left Harun injured. Two police constables, Ushadhon Chakma and Nesar Ahmed, were also injured in the incident, reports UNB.
2 drug peddlers hurt in Satkhira gunfights
SATKHIRA: Two alleged drug peddlers were injured in two separate incidents of ‘gunfight’ with police in Sadar and Debhata upazilas early Tuesday. In Sadar upazila, on secret information, a team of police, led by Sub-inspector Emdad Sheikh of Itagachha police outpost, launched a drive in Bejerdanga area early in the morning. Sensing the presence of police, a gang of drug peddlers hurled a bomb towards them, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, which left drug peddler Bishwajit Sarkar, son of Narayan Sarkar, a resident of Madhumollardangi area, bullet-injured, said Sub-inspector Kamal Hossain of the Special Branch of Police, Satkhira. Police also recovered 100 pieces of Yaba tablet and several bottles of Phensidyl syrup from his possession, reports UNB.
2 killed in Tangail road crash
TANGAIL:A driver and a passenger were killed and seven other people injured in a collision between a truck and covered van on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Koratipara area of Basail upazila on Tuesday morning. Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. Ajay Dev, sub-inspector of Gorai highway police camp, said the accident took place in the area around 7am as the truck collided with the covered van, leaving the latter’s driver dead on the spot and its eight passengers injured. The injured were admitted to Tangail Medical College Hospital where another succumbed to his injuries, reports UNB.
1,330 bottles of phensidyl recovered in C’nawabganj
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 1,330 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup from Chalkpara area in Shibganj upazila on Monday afternoon. On secret information, a team of BGB conducted a drive near 183/2 S border pillar around 3.30pm and recovered the 1,330 bottles of Phensidyl in an abandoned condition, said a press release of BGB-9 battalion. The seized Phensidyl will be worth around Tk5.32 lakh, reports UNB.
Bus plunge kills garment worker in M’singh
MYMENSINGH: A garment worker was killed and 22 others were injured as a bus they were travelling by slewed sideways into a ditch from a bridge on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Trishal upazila on Monday night. The deceased was identified as Habib. Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Trishal Police Station, said the Dhaka-bound bus from Sherpur plunged into the ditch breaking railing of the bridge in Signboard area around 11.30pm as the driver lost control over its wheels, leaving Habib dead on the spot and 22 others injured, reports UNB.
