Kishoreganj district administration arranged a workshop on ‘Disaster Management’ at Local Cercuite house conference room on Thursday with ADC (General) Tarafder Md. Akhter Jamil in the chair. Deputy Commissioner Md. Azimuddin Biswas and Zila Parished Administratior Advocate Md. Zillur Rahman were attended as chief and special guest. It was addressed among others by D.R.O Md. Siddiqur Rahman, District Education Officer Md. Shajahan, Itna UNO Md. Abdullah, Sadar UNO Abu Naser Beg, Assistant Director of Fire Service Md. Miscreants cut driver’s tendons in Sylhet clinic

Unidentified miscreants stormed into the premises of a private hospital and stabbed its driver in the shoulder and cut several tendons of his forearms in Sylhet city’s Modhusahid early monday. Imran Ahmed, 23, driver of Grameen Hospital, was trying to close its gate around 2:30am when the incident took place, said Suhel Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station. The reason behind the attack, launched by three to four men, could not be ascertained immediately, he said. Imran was taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Mobile court fines 4 business establishments in Jhenaidah

A mobile court in Sailkupa municipal town had fined taka 40 thousand to four business establishments on Wednesday noon. Assistant Commissioner of Land Sumi Majumder conducted the court. But the businessmen at Kabirpur under the banner of Kabirpur Dokan Malik Samity, a platform of the traders shut down their shops for two hours protesting the mobile coccurct drive on the eve of the Edi-Ul Fitr, they said. According to the mobile court sources, it realised Taka Taka 20 thousand fro-m Nurjahan Private Hospital, Taka 10 thousand from Banaful Sweets, Taka five thousand fro-m Priyanka Hotel and Sujan-Suman Hotel each in cash. Upazila nirbahi officer in Sailkupa Didarul Alam said, the drive of the mobile court will be continued until and unless the business men do not stop the irregularities and creating dirty environment in the name of services. Kabirpur Dokan Malik Samity president Showkat Ali said, they were compelled to shut their shops when the mobile court drive was a regular feature in a smaller town like Sailkupa.
One held with phensidyl in C’nawabganj
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 arrested a drug trader with 429 bottles of phensidyl from Putirghat-Chokai village under Shibganj upazila of the district yesterday night. The arrested was M Tanu Miah, 28, of Chokaipuradipara of the upazila. On a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area and arrested Tanu with the contraband phensidyl, RAB sources said reports BSS.
8,337 tonnes of VGF rice distributed in Rangpur
RANGPUR: The government completed distribution of 8,337 tonnes rice under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) Programme among 4.16 lakh poor and distressed families in all eight upazilas and three pourasabhas in the district. Earlier, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief allocated the huge quantity of rice under the special VGF programme to assist the poor of the district in celebrating the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festivity, officials sources said, reports BSS..
The concerned upazila administrations with assistance of local public representatives and union level committees properly distributed 20-kg rice packed in a sac among each of the listed VGF card holder families.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) Md Faridul Haque said distribution of the VGF rice was timely completed so that the beneficiary poor and distressed families could celebrate the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festivity.
“This time, each of the selected beneficiary family got 20 kg VGF rice, double of the quantity of 10 kg of previous years, on the Eid-ul-Fitr festivity in all 76 unions under the eight upazilas and three pourasabhas in the district,” he said.
Under the programme, 529.50 tonnes of rice was distributed among 26,475 VGF card holder families in Sadar upazila, 1756.18 tonnes among 87,809 families in Mithapukur, 1,335,34 tonnes among 86,767 families in Pirganj, 1,078.18 tonnes among 53,909 families in Pirgachha, 884.06 tonnes among 44,203 families in Kawnia, 996.48 tonnes among 49,828 families in Gangachara, 196.34 tonnes among 54,817 families in Badarganj and 538.06 tonnes among 26,903 families in Taraganj upazilas.
In addition to this, 61.62 tonnes special VGF rice was distributed among 3,081 distressed families in Badarganj pourasabha and 30.80 tonnes of rice among 1,540 families each in Haragachha and Pirganj pourasabhas in the district.
