BNP observes hunger strike in Sylhet city

Sylhet BNP also observed hunger strike at Court Point in the city as part of central programme. The programme started at 9 am on Sunday and ended up in the evening . The leaders of BNP Sylhet City and District Units addressed the programme. BNP Sylhet City Unit President MA Haque presided and Joint Convener of District Unit Emran Ahmed conducted the programme while the Assistant Organising Secretary of Central BNP Sakhawat Hussain Jibon, District BNP Convener Adv Nurul Haque, Joint Convener Dildar Hussain Selim, Abul Kaher Shamim, Abdur Razzak, Ali Ahmed, City BNP General Secretary Abdul Kaium Jalali, Senior Vice-President of City BNP Nasim Hussain, Joint Secretary Ajmol Bokht Sadek, Humayun Kobir Shahin and General Secretary of District Juba Dol Mamunur Rashid took part in the hunger strike.
Orientation on breastfeeding held

Under the auspices of Bangladesh Breastfeeding Foundation, an orientation with both electronic and print media was held in the conference room of Bagerhat Civil Surgeon Office with Dr. Md. Bakir Hossain, Civil Surgeon, Bagerhat in the chair on Monday to create awareness on importance of breastfeeding . It was organised under “Establishment of Breastmilk Substitute (BMS) Code Monitoring System in Bangladesh.” Dr. Prodip Kumar Bakshi, Medical Officer of Bagerhat Civil Surgeon Office and Dr. Biddyut Kanti Pal, Upazila Health and Family Planning Office, Bagerhat Sadar discussed detailed on the topic. They said , there is no substitute of breastfeeding and it can protect both children and their mothers from various major diseases like diarrhea, night blindness, breast cancer, uterus cancer and some other health disorders. They also discussed on the breastfeeding substitute (BMS) its production, marketing, supply, (selling controlling) Ordinance of 2013. Dr, Prodip Kumar Bakshi disclosed in the orientation meeting , there are as many as 2,437 mammal animals in the world and all of their children depend on breastfeeding. He adds that only human babies are some times depend on substitute food item. He emphatically says that breastfeeding is must for a child up to the age of six months. Dr. Biddyut Kanti Paul said , Bangladesh is to spend 3 hundred crores US dollars every year to import baby food and powdered milk from the foreign countries and these baby food and powdered milk are detrimental to health of the people in general and to the health of the children particularly.The orientation meeting was also addressed among others by Babul Sardar, President of Bagerhat Press Club as the Chief uest while Adv. Mozaffar Hossain former president of Bagerhat Press Club, Prof. ABM. Mosharraf Husain, former president of the club as special guests. SM. Zakaria Mahmud, Ahad Haidar, Bisnu Prosad Chakravarty, Shawkat Akunji, Mafizur Rahman, Moazzem Hossain Majnu and Yamin Ali.
Hizla Jamaat leader arrested

Police arrested Shaen Shah E Samu Chowdhury, Hizla upazila Amir (president) of Barisal district on Monday afternoon from Khunna Bazar of Hizla. Shawkat Anwar, Hizla police station officer in charge, said Samu Chowdhury was arrested while suspecting as conducting conspiracy meeting against the government and state at his business center in the bazaar. Police searching for cases against him and he would be sent to court under section 54, if no case would be found.
