Woman killed ‘by husband’ in Chuadanga

A woman was killed allegedly by her husband over a family feud at Sutia village in Jibannagar upazila on Thursday night.
Police said Rama Rani, 27, wife of Subhash Chandra, went to her grandfather’s house along with her husband on Tuesday.
On Thursday morning, Rama had an altercation with Shubhash over a trifling matter and at one stage, Shubash hit Rama with a sharp weapon, leaving her critically injured.
Later she was rushed to Jessore 250-bed Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries around 8pm.
Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Jibannagar Police Station, said police conducted a drive to arrest Shubash.
Special munajats offered on Jumatul Wida in Rangpur
RANGPUR: Holy Jumatul Wida, the last Juma prayers in the holy month of Ramadan, was observed here yesterday through offering special munajats in all mosques in the city with due religious fervour and solemnity. Before the Jumatul Wida prayers, the Khatibs and Imams delivered special Khutba in different mosques highlighting the significance of Jumatul Wida, the holy month of Ramadan, Shab-E-Qadr, Fitra and Zakat. Like in many other mosques, hundreds of musollis participated in the Jumatul Wida prayers at the historical Keramotia Jam-e-Mosque where its Khatib Moulana Alhaj Bayezid Hussaine delivered special Khutba before the prayers. Many musollis participated in the major Jumatul Wida prayers at Central Bus Terminal Jam-e-Mosque, Nasirabad Ekramia Jam-e-Mosque, Lucky Mosque, Katchari Bazaar Jam-e-Mosque, Police Line Jam-e-Mosque, Kamal Kachna Jam-e-Mosque, Paschim Khasbag Jam-e-Mosque, Jamtola Jam-e- Mosque, Dhap Jam-e-Mosque, Sadar Hospital Jam-e-Mosque, Alamnagar Wakf Mosque, and Satmatha Jam-e- Mosque in the city, reports BSS.
12 arrested with arms, ammo in Faridpur
FARIDPUR: Members of the Rapid Action Battalion(RAB)-8 in a twelve-hour operation at different places of the district arrested 12 notorious criminals and recovered huge quantity of arms from them. According to official sources, the operation starting from Wednesday night to Thursday morning netted twelve criminals including members of inter-district gangs, muggers and drug peddlers from different places particularly from Bhanga upazila of this district. According to the sources, one 7.65 mm foreign made pistol, one shooter gun, five rounds of ammunition, three sharp cutting ‘Ram da’, phensydil, 23 mobile phones, sixty SIM cards, 320 pieces of Yaba tablets and one lap-top. The arrested were identified as Imam Hossain, Palash, Krishnakanta Majumdar, Sumon Hossain, Israfil Matubbar, Asadur Rahman Rahman, Robi Das, Sohel Talukdar, Nur Hossain, Jewel Matubbar, Sohel Matubbar and Radhesham Mondol, hailed from Bhanga upazila of the district, reports BSS.
Grocer electrocuted in Chandpur
CHANDPUR: A grocer was electrocuted in his shop at Bagadi village in sadar upazila of the district yesterday evening. The victim was identified as Shamim Hawlader,25, owner of a grocery store and son of Alamgir Hawlader of the village. Balayet Hossain Billal Gazi, chairman of Bagadi Union Parishad, said Shamim Hawlader came in contact with a live electric wire while he was cleaning the furniture of his shop. Later, critically injured Shamim was rushed to Chandpur Government General Hospital where attending doctors declared him dead, the UP chairman added, reports BSS.
Call to produce environment-friendly crops

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has called upon the farmers to put their best efforts in environment- friendly organic agriculture for producing poison free safe crop.
Additional Director (Administration and Finance) of DAE Mohammad Abdul Aziz called upon the farmers while he was addressing a farmers training under the project of environment-friendly poison free crop production at Shibpur Upazila agriculture training centre on Tuesday.
Underlining the need for organic agriculture, the additional director said organic farming plays a vital role nurturing the soil and increasing production.
He said to reduce the production cost the farmers need to produce environment-friendly crops.
He also said, “If you use organic fertilizers, then you don’t need pesticides or chemical fertilizers.”
Deputy Director, DAE, Narsingdi Latafat Hossain, and District Training Officer Dr Mohit Kumar Dey also addressed the training as special guest with Shibpur upazila Krishi Officer Nazmul Kabir in the chair.
Later the Additional Director Abdul Aziz visited the different orchards of Lotkan in Joynagor union of Shibpur upazila.
