Ex-MD of Imperial Medical College fined

A court of Moulvibazar has awarded one year simple imprisonment to fugitive Ilyas, Ex-Managing Director of Imperial Medical College at Moulvi Bazar for embezzling Tk. 77.50 lakh by producing fake documents. The court fined him also Tk 78 lakh, or three months simple jail in default. District and Session Judge Shafiqul Islam announced the judgment on Wednesday. It has been said in the judgment that the petitioner will be entitled to Tk.77.50 lakh out of Tk. 78 lakh. The jail term will be effective from the date he will be arrested. Dr. M.G.Moula, founding Editor and Publisher of the Weekly Surma filed a fraudulent case against Ilyas. PP Bhuvaneshwar Purakayestha stood for the State while Advocate Abdul Mohaymin Chowdhury pleaded for the defence.
Sewing machines distributed among distressed women

Sewing machines were distributed among distressed, helpless women to make them self-relaint at Gafargaon under Mymensingh District. Sewing-machines are distributed among 90 distressed women by Women Development Forum at Upazila Parishad Auditorium on Tuesday noon. Upazila Youth Development Directorate has given training this beneficiaries for one month. Local MP Fahami Goalndaz Babel was present as Chief Guest . Upazila Mahila Vice-chairman Reshma Akter presided over the function. The chief guest in his speech said, it is possible to earn and spend by using sewing-machine at home. Steps will be taken to make self-reliant of the helpless women through various project on the next days. Besides, Upazila Chairman Asraf Uddin Badal, Pouro Mayor S.M. Ikbal Sumon, UNO Shidharta Shonkor Kundu spoke at the function.
Attempt to grab land in Kushtia

One Sattar Mollah is grabbing a piece of land at Teghoria Horra Bele on Kushtia outskirt and pressing the purchasers to purchase it again. The land is being used by the local people as passageway. According to the victims, some 20 local residents including Helal Uddin, Shamsher, Khoka, Habibur Rahman, Manik, Nazim Uddin, Riaz Uddin Badshah and Reveka, purchased the land in question from Sattar Mollah for Tk. 20,000 about 15 years ago and set a condition that he (Sattar) would never demand this land in future. But as the price of the land increased manyfold, Sattar illegally occupied the land and is asking them to purchase again, but rejected. The purchasers said that influential and respectable persons of the area were present at the time of deal. Ex-member Haroun admitted the authentication of the deal. He said, the payment was made peacefully and lawfully with consent of all parties and they agreed that the land would be used as passageway. Now if the land is besieged, 15 to 20 families will be in great troubles. Yet Sattar’s sons Aslam Mollah, Usman Mollah and their accomplices dug the passage on Wednesday and tried to take the piece of land under control. The victims said that they would be in serious troubles if the road was cut. They have pleaded to the district administration for justice.
