Video confce on consumer rights held in Narsingdi

A video conference with Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Helaluddin Ahmed regarding Consumer Rights Protection Act was held at the conference room of Sadar Upazila Parishad on Thursday. Deputy Commissioner (Acting) Narsingdi, Mohammad Kamal Hossain addressed the conference as chief guest with Nirbahi officer of Sadar upazila Motakabbir Ahmed in the chair. Former Principal of Narsingdi Government College Prof Mohammad Ali also spoke in the conference. He emphasized the need for proper enforcement of the Consumers’ Rights Protection (CRP) law for protecting the consumers’ rights. Assistant Police Super Khaled Ahmed, Press club president Morshed Shaharier, Secretary Shafiqul Mahammud Manik, Assistant Director, Department of consumer Rights, Rahhan Quaddus and a number of government officials and local journalists were present at the conference.
Current net, polythene seized in Chandpur
CHANDPUR: The Coast Guard personnel in a drive seized more than 13.41 lakh meters banned current net and 300 kg polythene from a market in Matlab Dakhin upazila of Chandpur district on Thursday. On information, a team of the Coast Guard personnel led by station commander Sub Lieutenant M. Atahar Ali conducted the raid in Amirabad Bazar of the upazila and seized current nets and polythene valued more than Taka 2.68 crore, the law enforcement agency sources said. During the raid, the team also arrested 5 current nets smugglers from the bazar. Lawful action would be taken against the arrested persons, the Coast Guard sources said, reports BSS.
Seven shops fined Tk 22,000 in Faridpur
FARIDPUR: A mobile court in Faridpur conducted on Thursday imposed a fine of Taka 22,000 and seized 10 kgs of banned polythene bags from local markets. The mobile court conducted by executive magistrate Md. Asaduzzaman in support of Environment Directorate fined seven grocery shops and realised the fines instantly Taka 22,000 for keeping polythene bags in their shops. Later, the polythene bags were destroyed, reports BSS.
22 illegal shops demolished in Manikganj

About 22 illegal shops were demolished at Manikganj Bus Stand Market by a mobile court to pave the way for expansion of four lanes road between the bus stand and DC bungalow on Thursday. The court, led by executive magistrate Sayeda Samira, conducted the demolition drive at Manikganj Bus Stand and knocked down 22 illegal shops. The shops were erected by occupying Roads and Highways (R&H) lands, R& H office sources said. Earlier, legal notices were served to the owners of shops to shift their business establishments from the R and H lands, the court sources said. The court is comprised of officials of the R and H, district administration and members of law enforcement agencies.
