1400 km long road to connect India, Thailand, Myanmar

India, Thailand and Myanmar are working on a 1,400-kilometre long highway that will link India with Southeast Asia by land for the first time in decades, giving a boost to trade and cultural exchanges between the three countries.
Indian Ambassador to Thailand Bhagwant Singh Bishnoi said 73 bridges in Myanmar, built more than seven decades ago during World War II, were being renovated with funding from India to allow vehicles to cross the highway safely.

11 killed in Myanmar jade mine landslide

At least 11 people died in a landslide in a remote jade mining region of northern Myanmar with many more feared missing, authorities said Tuesday, in the latest deadly incident to hit the shadowy industry.
Locals and officials are searching for bodies after a wall of unstable earth collapsed during a downpour on Monday night in Hpakant, Kachin State, the war-torn area that feeds a huge demand for the precious stone in neighbouring China.
Brazil confirms mosquito as Zika vector

Brazilian scientists said on Monday they have found the first hard evidence the Zika virus blamed for causing brain damage in hundreds of babies is carried by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
Despite the fact that world health authorities have said for months that the mosquito species is the main vector for Zika, no Aedes aegypti carrying the virus had previously been found in the Americas.
