Housewife commits suicide in Sylhet

A housewife allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself with ceiling fan over a family feud at Nizampur village in Fenchuganj upazila of Sylhet district on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Sima Rani Das, 37, wife of Nirmal Chandra Das, a resident of Nizampur village, according to a news agency report. Nandan Kanti Dhar, officer-in-charge of Fenchuganj Police Station, said Sima killed herself by hanging herself with the ceiling fan over a family feud around 9:00am. On information, police rushed in and recovered the body around 1:00pm and sent it to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for an autopsy, the OC added. A case was filed in this connection.
Road crash kills 3 in Sylhet
A woman, her son and a relative were killed in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a truck in Shahporan area of Sylhet city yesterday around 8:30pm. The deceased were the auto-rickshaw’s passengers Salma Begum, 70, her son Harunur Rashid, 45, and their relative Sayra Khatun, 28, of Zakiganj upazila in the district. Officer-in-Charge of Shahporan police Shahjalal Munshi confirmed the incident. Police recovered the bodies and sent them to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Man held with 1,033 bottles of Phensidyl in C’nawabganj

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a man along with 1,033 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup from Bir Shrestha Mohiuddin Jahangir Bridge in Sadar uapzila on Thursday. Tipped off, a joint team of Rab from Rajshahi and Natone camps conducted a drive in the area around 5pm and recovered 1,033 bottles of Phensidyl from a stone-laden truck, said a press release of Rab-5. Rab also arrested Enamul Hossain, 38, son of Akhter Hossain of Pabna district.
Abducted boy rescued in Jessore: 2 held
BENAPOLE: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive rescued a minor boy, who had been kidnapped from Jhikorgacha upazila on Tuesday, from Mathurapur village in Manirampur upazila of Jessore district on Thursday night. Rab sources said a group of miscreants had kidnapped Foysal, 8, son of Mantu Mia, from Sharanpur village at gunpoint early Tuesday. Later the miscreants demanded Tk5 lakh as ransom from Mantu Mia over phone for his son’s release. Mantu Mia filed a written complaint with Rab-5 office on that day. Meanwhile, the elite force conducted a drive in Rupdia area of Manirampur upazila and arrested Sagar Sheikh, 33, son of Billal Hossain, on Thursday night on suspicion of his involvement in the kidnap. Following the confessional statement of Sagar, the Rab members raided the house of one Mintu Mia at Mathurapur village in the upazila and rescued Foysal. The Rab personnel also arrested Mizanur Rahman Mintu, 34, son of Alauddin Gazi over the incident. The rescued boy and the two alleged kidnappers were handed over to Manirampur Police Station, reports UNB.
Lineman dies after falling from pole in Chuadanga
CHUADANGA: A worker of West Zone Power Distribution Co. Ltd (WZPDCL) died after falling from an electric pole while working at Boro Masjidpara in the district town on Thursday noon. Sabuktogin, residential engineer of Chuadanga WZPDCL, said Idris Ali, 49, a lineman of the company and son of Ijal Ali of Alamdanga upazila, died after he fell from an electric pole while working on a power line around 9 am. Later he was rushed to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 12 pm, reports UNB.
