Woman held with phensidyl in Shibganj

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 on Monday arrested a woman with 348 bottles of phensidyl at Telkupi Lambatola village under Shahbajpur union in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district. The arrested woman is Sagori Khatun, 20, wife of Abdus Salam of the aforesaid area. RAB said, acting on a tip off, an operation team of the force from Chapainawabganj camp led by ASP Sahidar Rahman raided the house of Sagori around 12-45 pm and found the bottles of phensidyl in 14 plastic bags kept in a steel box in her room. A case was filed with Shibganj police station in this connection.
Protests on Tonu murder at Gafargaon

With no visible progress in the investigation, protests continued across the country, demanding justice for Sohagi Jahan Tonu, who was killed inside Comilla Cantonment area on March 20. At this the agitated people of Gafargaon arranged a human- chain one hour long before Gafargaon Press-club on Sunday noon. Upazila Anti-corruption committee, Gafargaon press-club, Gafargaon Non-government college Teachers’ Forum, Gafargaon 85′ Social Organization, Bangladesh Human Rights commission , Mukta Paira Khelagor Asar, Shikder Sangeet Academy, Udichi Shilpogusti, participated in this human chain.
BCP gang leader held with arms

The police in Sailkupa of Jhenaidah have arrested a gang leader of out fit Biplabi Communist Party (BCP) from a house in Jhenaidah. The arrested was Hanif Mandal, 35, son of Mohammad Ali Mandal of Krishnapur village in Sailkupa. The arrested was absconding in a murder and two other cases with Sailkupa police for a last couple of years, the police said. Sailkupa police officer in Charge Mahibul Islam said, the police conducted a drive in the early hours of Tuesday on a tip off and arrested Hanif from his house. The police recovered a pipe gun with two rounds of ammunitions from his possession. Hanif was acquitted in a murder case and wanted in three other cases including a murder one. He was involved in toll collection and some other anti-social activities for last couple of years showing his illegal arms in Sailupa, Jhenaidah and neighboring Magura Sadar and Sripur upazila in Magura, the police said.
Barrack to construct for female police
CHUADANGA: A six-storied barrack for the female police working in Chuadanga district would be constructed at the local police line. Chuadanga police superintendent office source said the construction work of the female police barrack is expected to be started by this month. Police super of Chuadanga Roshidul Hasan laid the foundation stone of the police barrack on April 1 at the local police line. In the first phase, the barrack would be a two-storied building at a cost of Taka two crores and seventy eight lakhs. When constructed, over 100 female police members would be accommodated in the barrack. Public Works Department will implement the scheme, the sources said adding it would take a year to construct the barrack, reports BSS.
30 lakh meters current net seized
MUNSHIGANJ: A mobile court comprising Fisheries Department, RAB and police seized 30 lakh meters of banned current net from a factory in Nayagaon area of the town on Monday. Acting on a tip off, the court, led by Executive Magistrate Asif Anam Siddique, conducted a drive to ‘Tasfia Fishing Net’ factory and seized the banned current nets. Mohammad Manik Miah, 35, owner of the factory, was also arrested during the drive. Later, the court released him after realizing Taka 10,000 as fine for producing banned current nets, reports BSS.
Dacoity committed at Khedmotpur market

Daring dacoity committed at Khedmotpur market under Pirganj upazila of the district on Sunday night. A group of dacoits entered the market wearing mask and assaulted and stabbed night guard Khurshid Alam 40. The dacoits looted valuables from different shops worth about Taka two lakhs. Local people rescued night guard Khurshid Alam and admitted him to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex. A case was filed with Pirganj Thana in this connection.
