Martyrdom day of 10 intellectuals observed in Rangpur
RANGPUR: The martyrdom day of ten renowned intellectuals of Rangpur city was observed befittingly by paying rich tribute to them at ‘Dakhiganj Shwashan Baddhyabhumi Smriti Soudha’ here on Sunday afternoon. ‘Dakhiganj Baddhyabhumi Smriti Rakhshsya Committee’ and ‘Muktijuddher Smriti Sangrakkhshan Parishad (MSSP)’ placed wreaths at the ‘Dakhiganj Shwashan Baddhyabhumi’ and organised a memorial discussion in observance of the day.After placing wreaths, former General Secretary of district unit of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Comrade Chandan Ghosh presided over the discussion held at the ‘Dakhiganj Shwashan Baddhyabhumi’ premises. Convener of MSSP Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick Babu Sona, President of district unit of Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee Dr Mofizul Islam Mantu, leader of Ganotantry Party Nipendra Nath Roy, and martyred family member Tapan Adhikari addressed, among others.
Firearms, ammo seized in Lakshmipur

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive seized firearms and ammunition and arrested four armed terrorists from a house at East Aladadpur village in Sadar upazila on Sunday. Acting on a tip off, a team of elite force of Lakshmipur Camp led by Lt. commander Mohammad Gulzar Hossain conducted the raid at Daktar Bari of the village and seized 3 country made LG and 4 rounds of bullets and arrested four armed terrorists from the house. The arrestees are Monir Hossain son of Abul Kalam Azad and Saiful Islam ,son of Shahab Uddin of East Aladadpur village, Fahad Bin Abdul Azia, son of Gaisuddin Mamun and Jahid Hassan Johny, son of Nur Mohammad of Monohorpur village of Sadar upazila of the district.
Construction of 14 academic buildings goes on in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: Construction work of 14 academic buildings for different colleges of the district has been going on in full swing. The Ministry of Education took the plan to construct the two-storied buildings with four storied foundation of the colleges aimed at providing the lessons to the students in an improved environment side by side for resolving their accommodation problem, office sources said. Accordingly, a total of 14 modern academic buildings involving Taka 19.50 crore for 14 non government colleges of all the seven upazilas in the district are being built during the current fiscal year.Of them, 3 buildings are being built in Sadar upazila, Gobindaganj upazila and Sundarganj upazila each , two in Sadullapur upazila and one in Fulchhari upazila, Palashbari upazila and Shaghata upazila each. Education Engineering Department (EED) is implementing the work under the project of Development of Selected Non Government Colleges along with ICT Facilities for Improving Quality of Education while the government of Bangladesh is providing the fund, said M. Khurshid Alam, assistant engineer of EED here., reports BSS.
Deworming week begins in Rajshahi city

Deworming week has been opened in the city formally with a call to build worm-free society collectively.Acting Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation Nizam-Ul Azim inaugurated the week through feeding a tablet to a baby at Surjakona School yesterday as chief guest. Ward Councilors Mustaque Hossain and Nazma Khatun and Chief Health Officer Dr AFM Anjuman Ara Begum spoke on the occasion with headmaster of the school Rahima Khatun in the chair. Mayor Nizam-Ul Azim called for making the week from April 2 to 7 a total success for building a worm-free society. He underlined the need for creating widespread health awareness among the school-going children for controlling many communicable diseases. Terming the school students as the most vulnerable to worm infection, they called for making them aware about health hygiene and using sanitary latrine together with proper hand washing before taking every meal.
2 held with smuggled Indian goods in Jessore

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested a covered van driver and helper with a huge amount of smuggled Indian goods from Khorki Railgate area of Jessore on Sunday night. The arrestees were identified as Sohel Rana, driver or the covered van, and Abdullah, the helper. Sources at Jessore Rab-6 said on secret information, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area at night and arrested the duo along with the covered van. Later they seized Indian shari, three piece and medicines worth TK 78 lakh from the covered van. The seized goods were smuggled from India, added the Rab officials.A case was filed with Kotowali Police Station in this connection.
