One held with counterfeit notes in Barguna

Police in a drive arrested a man and recovered counterfeit notes of Taka 9,000 from Keuabunia area on Amtali-Patuakhali road under Amtali upazila of the district on Saturday night. The arrested is Kamal Bayati, 40, a resident of Galachipa in Patuakhali district. On a tip off, a team of police conducted the drive in the area and arrested the counterfeiter and recovered nine notes of Taka 1,000 denomination each by searching his body, said officer-in-charge of Amtali Thana Pulak Chandra. Police sent Kamal to jail this morning.
Madrasa teacher killed in road mishap in Fakirhat

A motor cyclist was killed on the spot when he was dashed violently by a passenger coach of Rafin Shafin Paribahan from his back on Dhaka-Khulna via Mawa Highway at Fakirhat Bazar under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district on Thursday evening. The deceased was identified as Murad Hawladar, a teacher of Bailtali Madrasa under the same Upazila. It is reported that in the evening the ill-fated Madrasa teacher was returning home from the residence of his father-in-law and when he reached the place of occurrence he stopped his cycle and stood by the side of the highway. At that time the speeding killer passenger coach that was coming from his behind dashed him violently and fled away. Consequently, the teacher was fatally injured and died instantly.
6 ‘robbers’ arrested from Sylhet hotel

Police in a drive arrested six alleged robbers from a residential hotel in the city on Saturday night. The arrestees were identified as Md Jashim, 23, Md Sohel, 23, Md Mizan, 20, Nasim Miah, 22, hailing from Muradnagar upazila in Comilla district, Sohel, 23, from Brahmanbari, and Md Rubel, 22 from Chittagong. Sohel Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Kotowali Police Station, said being tipped off, police raided “Hotel Majlis’ in the city around 11:30am and arrested them from rooms no 406, 201 and 305. ‘Police also recovered weapons used in robbery from their possession’ added the OC.
7 robbers held in Moulvibazar
MOULVIBAZAR: Police in separate drives arrested seven alleged members of a robber gang from Kulaura upazila and deferent places of the district on Saturday. The arrestees were identified as Islam, 38, and Soleman, 36, two notorious robbers of Kamalganj upazila; Mostafa , 39, and Seful, 21, from Rajnagar upazila; Shakil, 23, a resident of Vatera area of Kulaura upazila; Shahid, 36, hailing from Habiganj Sadar upazila and Anwar, 35 from Sreemangal upazila. Police also recovered 12 mobile phone sets, two machetes, one grill cuter and some locally-made weapons from their possession and a seized a CNG-run auto-rickshaw which were used in robberies. At a press briefing on the Kulaura Police Station premises around 12:00pm, police said a team of police led by Assistant Superintendent of Police of Kulaura Circle Junaid Alam Sarkar conducted those drives and arrested the robbers. Shamshuddoha, PPM, said several cases were filed against the arrestees with different police stations, reports UNB.
Bank guard injured by robbers in Bhola
BHOLA: A security guard was injured by robbers as he attempted to resist a robbery bid at Shashibhushon branch of Krishi Bank in Charfashion upazila early Saturday. A gang of robbers entered the Sashibhuson branch of Krishi Bank, breaking the window grill around 4 am, said Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge of Shashibhuson Police Station. Later, Billal Hossain Jhantu, 35, a security guard of the bank, tried to prevent the bandits from committing robbery. At one stage, they stabbed Billal indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured, reports UNB.
