Madrasa teacher killed in road mishap in Fakirhat

A motor cyclist was killed on the spot when he was dashed violently by a passenger coach of Rafin Shafin Paribahan from his back on Dhaka-Khulna via Mawa Highway at Fakirhat Bazar under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district on Thursday evening. The deceased was identified as Murad Hawladar, a teacher of Bailtali Madrasa under the same Upazila. It is reported that in the evening the ill-fated Madrasa teacher was returning home from the residence of his father-in-law and when he reached the place of occurrence he stopped his cycle and stood by the side of the highway. At that time the speeding killer passenger coach that was coming from his behind dashed him violently and fled away. Consequently, the teacher was fatally injured and died instantly.
Four houses vandalized at Bhangura

The four houses have been vandalized at Dilpashar Union under Bhangura Upazila on Thursday night. Locals said, Habibur Rahman, members candidate of village Magura – 2 was narrowly defeated in Dilpashar UP Election . For this reason,he thought Abdul Majid, Hashem Ali, Abdus Salam and Abdul Malek, the villager,s of Puibil bandpara were responsible for his defeated. Abdul Majid said the miscrients vandalized their houses ordered by Habibur Rahman . In the incident the voters of their families were asulted and crops were destroyed by the miscrients. Abu Jafar,the officer in-charge of Bhangura thana confirmed the news and said that he instructed the investigation officer to take legal action . Sub-Inspector Enamul Haque visited the affected houses on Friday. None was arrested in this connection .
Programmes on citizen charter end

A five-day long programme styled as ‘Lecture and discussion on ‘Citizen Charter: A Tool for Accountability of State Administration’ and ‘Right to Information’ ended in Barisal on Thursday. Change Makers, a non-profit organisation promoting civic education, human rights, good governance and democracy in Bangladesh and the American Center, U.S. Embassy, Dhaka has been jointly organised the programmes with the college and university students. Activists and experts on Citizen Charter and RTI attended the programmes as the speakers and make a presentation on the above mention subject. It was an Institution-based program and duration of the program was around two and half hours. More than one thousand students at five colleges including Barisal Islamia College, Amritalal Dey College, Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia Mohila College, Barisal Government Women’s College, Government Brojo Mohun College, participated in the programmes.
15 sued for torching Hindu house in Sylhet

Police arrested one of the 15 accused in the case for torching a house of a Hindu family in Golapganj upazila of Sylhet on Saturday. The arrestee is MA Shahed, 40, a resident of Barkot village in the upazila. Victim Ripon’s father Nagendra Deb filed a case with Golapganj Police Station accusing 15 people, including one Akbar Ali of the village, on Sunday, Officer-in-Charge Fazlul Haque Shibly of the police station said. A team of the law enforcer, led by Sub-Inspector Mridul Kanti Bhoumik, also the investigation officer of the case, raided the village and arrested Shahed from his house. On Saturday, a gang led by Akbar Ali swooped on the house of Ripon Deb around 9:00pm to grab his land, said Kajal Das, convener of Hindu-Bouddha -Christian Oikya Parishad in Golapganj upazila said. The gang also stabbed three members of the family when they tried to resist them from grabbing the land, police quoted locals as saying. They also vandalised, looted and torched the house. Injured Ripon Deb, his wife and daughter were admitted to Golapganj Upazila Health Complex the same night.
