Three restaurants fined in Sylhet

A mobile court on Tuesday fined three restaurants for producing and selling food in unhygienic place in Sylhet. Assistant Director of National Consumer Rights Protection Department’s Sylhet branch Debananda Sinha led the mobile courtat Zallarpar area in the city. Sources concerned said Pachbhai Restaurant was fined TK 30,000 while Panshi and Rashed restaurants were fined Tk 5,000 each.

Theft committed in jewellery shop in Chulkathi Bazar

A daring burglary was committed in a jewellery shop belonging to one Mantu Shaikh of Chulkathi bazar within Khanpur Union under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat district on Sunday night. It is reported that at dead of night a number burglars entered the shop by breaking its back wall. Then they broke the iron safe of the shop and decamped with cash, gold, silver and other valuables worth Tk.10 lakh. In the following morning Mijanur Rahman,Officer-in-charge of Bagerhat PS, Fakir Faham Uddin, newly elected Chairman of Khanpur Union, Sushanta Das, President, Traders’ Association of Chulkathi Bazar local UP member and others visited the place of occurrence. SI Jahangir, in-charge of Chulkathi police outpost told the newsmen, police are trying to arrest the culprits.

10,500 cow fattening tablets, drugs seized in Dinajpur

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized 10,500 pieces of cow fattening tablets, 342 pieces of yaba tablets and 178 bottles of phensidyl from a train in Phulbari Railway Station of the district yesterday. On a tip-off, a BGB team raided a compartment of the train and seized the tablets and drugs in an abounded condition.
None was arrested in this connection.

One held with 1,400 pieces of yaba in Khulna

Police arrested a man on charges of peddling drug from city’s Pujakhola Mandeer area on the Jessore-Khulna Highway on Wednesday night. Police also seized 1,400 pieces of yaba tablets from his possession. On a tip-off, a team of police raided the area and arrested Md Jahangir alias Kalu, a resident of South Rayer Mahol, Officer-in-Charge Sukumar Biswas said. A case was filed with Sonadanga Police Station in this connection.

Youth held with fake notes in Munishiganj

UNB, Munshiganj

Police arrested a young man in possession of 151 fake currency notes amounting to Tk75,500 from Shimulia ferry ghat in Louhajang upazila on Tuesday. Sub-inspector of Louhajang Police Station Nurul Huda said Rafique Sarder,32, son of Motaleb Sarder, a resident of Swarna Ghosh village in Palong upazila of Shariatpur district, bought bread from a grocery at the ferry ghat and gave a note of Tk500 denomination to the shopkeeper. As the shopkeeper found the note to be fake, he with the help of local people caught Rafique and informed police.
