AL- backed candidate elected Kaliganj poura mayor

Awami League- backed candidate Moksed Ali Mandal has been elected municipality mayor for Kaliaganj in Jhenaidah. Having the symbol boat, Moksed bagged 12,128 votes, while his nearest rebel AL candidate Masudur Rahman Mantu secured 8,112 votes. Mantu was contesting as an independent candidate from the municipality with the symbol cocoanut tree.
4 dacoits held in Sylhet city

Police arrested Four members of a dacoit gang conducting drives in Tilagor area in Sylhet city. The arrestees were identified as Al amin (37), Khalil (25), Osman Ali (20) and Rasal (28). Shahporan Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Shahjalal Munshi led the derive on Saturday Morning.
He told that earlier on March 18, a group of dacoits attacked the house of Mujibur Rahman in city’s Tilagor area and snatched gold jewelry and materials of Tk over 70 thousands. A case of dacoity was filed with Shahporan Thana Police following the incident. Police arrested the dacoits during investigation of the case. The OC said that the arrestees confessed their involvement in dacoity during primary interrogation.
School student killed by lightning

Yasin (8), son of one Selim Shaikh of village Charchinguri and a student of Class-II of Cahrchinguri Govt. Primary School under Chitalmari Upazila in Bagerhat district met his tragic end when a lightning flashed on him on Saturday morning. It is reported that the ill-fated boy went to his maternal aunt’s residence in the adjacent village Hizla on Friday to pay a visit there. On Saturday in the morning he went to a paddy field with his uncle. At that time light raining started and he took shelter under tree. But it is the irony of that all on a sudden a lighting struck the tree.
As a result, the boy lost his sense and sustained grievous burn injuries on his person. He was rushed to Tungupara Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
