CK-GK Project opens in Kishoreganj

Kishoreganj District Administration arranged a colourfull rally, discussion, cultural function and documentary film marking the special project of Clean Kishoreganj-Green Kishoreganj. Director General (DG) of Environment Department Md. Rafiul Alam Mondol attended as chief guest while Deputy Commissioner GSM Zafarullah presided . Forest and Environment Minsitry Joint Secretary Md. Tofiqul Arefin and Zila Parished Administrator Adv Md. Zillur Rahman attended as special guest. It was addressed among others, by Zila Parished C.E.O Md. Anisuzzaman, ADC (Gen) Tarafder Md. Akhter Jamil, Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Muklesur Rahman Khan, Poura Mayor Mahamud Pervez, Principal Sharif Sadi, Senior Journalist Saiful Haque Mollah Dulu Mithamon UNO Aziz Haider and Additional S.P Syed Abu Sayeem. A colourfull rally was brought out in the town led by Environment Director General Rafiul Alam Mondol.
206th birth anniv of poet Paglakanai ends

A three-day festival on the 206th birth anniversary of illiterate poet Paglakanai was concluded on Thursday in Jhenaidah. Kabigaan (serial songs), Bhabgaan (thematic song), Jarigaan, Lathikhela (playing with bamboo sticks), discussion meeting etc. were chalked out following the observation of the festival at Baribathan village under Jhenaidah Sadar upazila. Locals said, Paglakanai was born on 25 Falgoon of 1216 Bengali year at Lebutala village in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila and died on 28 Asharh of 1296. Since his boyhood Kanai was swift, unsteady and spiritual minded. Kanai could not go to school due to acute poverty of his family as he lost his father in the childhood. He started leading his life as a cowboy at the houses of the local villagers which encouraged him to mediate all the day when he was moving in the grass fields to feed his cows.
2 held with 800g heroin in C’nawabganj
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested two people along with 800 grams of heroin from Rajpara area in Sadar upazila on Wednesday night. Rab said in a press release, acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area and arrested Shamsuddin,50, son of Altaf Hossain of Rajapara village, and Rahim,40, son of Kachimuddin Biswas of Charharispur village in Sadar upazila, at about 10:30 pm while they were staying there to sell heroin. A case was filed in this connection, reports UNB.
National Disaster Preparedness Day observed
RANGPUR: The National Disaster Preparedness Day- 2016 was observed in the sub-Himalayan district town of Panchagarh yesterday with the theme of “We will not be afraid of calamities, we will overcome those.” The district administration with other government and non-government organisations brought out a colourful rally in the streets followed by a discussion held at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in the district town in observance of the day. Hundreds of people, including officials and representatives of different GO-NGO and voluntary organisations, students, teachers, journalists, public representatives, civil society members and elite took part in the rally marking the day.
Newly appointed Deputy Commissioner of Panchagarh Amal Krishna Mandal addressed the post-rally discussion as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (Gen) Mohammad Golam Azam in the chair.
Police Super of Panchagarh Gias Uddin Ahmad, valiant freedom fighter Abdul Kader, Awami League leader Bipen Chandra, Deputy Director of Panchagarh Fire Service & Civil Defense Station AKM Morshed, NGO executives, addressed among others.
Taking part in the discussion, the speakers laid maximum emphasis on creating adequate social awareness, early preparedness, knowledge and efficient emergency response management systems to reduce the risk of natural disasters and calamities.
They also put importance on well-coordinated and comprehensive efforts of the concerned government and non- government organisations, involving local communities, for ensuring early awareness to reduce losses during natural disasters.
