Biennial conference of JP held in Nilphamari

Jatiyo party (JP)chairman Hossain Mohammad Ershad said, “People of the country want freedom, as they have no right to speech, so they want to see JP in power.” He was addressing a bieannual conference of the party held at district Shilpakala academy premises at noon of recently. In connection with the conference, tension was mounted between two factions of the party, one led by district unit convener also lawmaker from Nilphamari-4 constituency of the party Shawkat Chowdhury and the other by joint convenor Jafar Iqbal Siddiquee. Shawkat Chowdhuty faction arranged conference venue at the permanent drama stage venue and the other faction-organized programme at district Shilpakala academy premises. MP Shawkat Chowdhury was in the back foot in the party rank and file as he refused to join the meeting called by party chief Ershad at Emanuel convention center at Gulsion in Dhaka as most of the JP lawmakers refrained from joining the meeting.
Fake bidi making machine seized

A mobile court in a drive has seized fake band rolls for Taka about one crore, fake Aziz Bidi for Taka five lakh and materials for making 20 crore from a house at Devrajpur under Kaliganj upazila in Jhenaidah yesterday morning. The court conducted by Upazila Nirbahi officer, also the executive magistrate Manwar Hossain Mollah had fined Taka 50 thousand to the owner of the fake bidi making factory Abdul Majid, the court sources said. Legal advisor of Varsha Group Md. Rafiqul Islam said, they were informed that Abdul Majid, son of Shahadat Hossain at village Devrajpur was marketing fake Aziz Bidi in the locality. They had informed the matter to the executive magistrate and the court led by Manwar Hossain Mollah conducted the drive. Kaliganj police officer in charghe Anwar Hossain said, the seized fake bidi and other materials were set on fire at the local upazila parishad complex then.
Daring dacoity committed in Madaripur
MADARIPUR: A daring dacoity was committed at Miaherhut Bazar under Kalkini upazila of the district on Sunday night that left one person dead. A group of dacoits-numbering about 12 to 14 and wearing masks-forcibly entered the market at midnight and looted different shops, including jewellery shops. During the dacoity they opened fire on those who tried to resist the miscreants and injured two persons and chopped three others. Among the bullet-injured persons Swapon Gazi 38, succumbed to his injuries at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Sohel Mridha, 28, is now undergoing treatment there. Dacoits looted gold and silver ornaments, cash Taka and other valuables from different shops. A case was filed with Kalkini thana in this connection, reports BSS.
